Caring for your garments

Crafting high-quality garments is crucial to us, so we aim to provide the best advice for caring for your silk to ensure your pieces last. If you have any further questions, don't hesitate to get in touch.

How to care for silk

Dry cleaning silk is preferred as silk fibres are delicate and can easily be damaged by water, heat and harsh chemicals found in common detergents. Dry cleaners tend to use gentler methods.

You could alternatively opt for hand-washing with gentle detergent. There are plenty of videos online demonstrating how to do this.

When caring for silk, extra caution is necessary due to its delicate nature. Silk fibres are finer and more fragile compared to other fabrics, making them prone to damage from friction, stretching, and exposure to sunlight. Careful attention to storing your pieces is essential to ensure that silk garments retain their beauty and longevity.

Storing your silk: General tips

  1. Location: Opt for a cool, dark and dry area with adequate air circulation. Avoid areas with direct sunlight, as prolonged exposure can cause fading.

  2. Breathable storage: Silk needs to breathe, so avoid tightly sealed plastic bags or containers. Instead, use breathable fabric garment bags or cotton pillowcases to protect silk items from dust and moisture while allowing air circulation.

  3. Avoid hanging: Unlike some fabrics, silk may stretch or lose its shape when hung for long periods. If possible, fold your silk garments neatly to prevent stretching and maintain their original shape.
